Artist statement

I have been working in oil painting for over 70 years. Throughout my life, I have traveled and lived abroad. Painting has always been my profession and I have sold works in France, Italy, England, India, Ceylon, South Africa and America. I was formally trained at the Bauhaus Institute of Design in Chicago. While in Chicago, I painted, practiced interior design and illustrated for news and film. Soon I wanted to explore the rest of the world and left America to pursue my profession elsewhere. I eventually settled in Rhodesia where I owned an interior design firm and Gallery.  Unfortunately, the political unrest over there caused me to uproot my family and return to America in the late 1970’s. We settled in Philomath, Oregon and I received my B.S. degree in fine and applied arts from Willamette University.

I have since shown my work in Michigan, California and Oregon. In addition to painting, I have taught drawing and painting at Ealing College in London, England; The School of Art in Johannesburg, South Africa; and Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon.
